This song has taken a number of turns to reach its final destination. Daniel kicked things off with the strong and pervasive guitar motif and the melody of the first few lines. When he first played it tot me, I was so moved by the sense of intimacy and known-ness that the rest of the lyrics just spilled out like water from an underground cistern!! The challenge came in moving the song from the spacious reflection in the verses into a hooky chorus that gathered you up and took you some place. Once it was written, we had fun with different effects on the vocals, percussing on Budweiser bottles and I also shut Dan in the live room with the light off (a great way of removing vocal inhibitions!) for him to improvise his heart out!
