This has to be the most literally 'shared' song we have done! The chorus
'Take me in, lead me on
' began its life earlier on in Daniel's Bournemouth
writing days before Cambridge was even dreamt of, or Note For a Child
conceived. I loved its honest directness and intimate feel and wrote some
verses in response. Daniel and I then wrestled with how we both felt about
the result. In particular, he felt the song needed more resolute strength
and less 'feminine' vulnerability in the verses; but no matter how we
re-approached the lyrics, nothing else would be written!
We ran with it as it was. It was the last song to be completed on the
album with the classical guitars being recorded through the early hours
of the night before album mastering! A close shave, and I wonder how much
further we would have taken the track given further time and reflection.

TAKE ME IN by DANIEL GOODMAN and SUSIE BEATTIE
You have spoken over me
Words of peace, Breathless silence
Still the wonderings of my mind
You
have spoken endlessly
Words of kindness, Fond affection
As a father, as your child
Take me in, lead me on
Take me in your arms and hide me
I am fragile, you are gentle, you are strong
Lead me on
You have spoken tenderly
Reached within
And gently moved me
You hold me closer than the air I breathe
LISTEN
to a sample.
