O N L Y O L I G H T

'In you there is no darkness at all.' I guess the hospital doctor years for me held times of deep and intense darkness- emotional despair and physical suffering I would never wish on anyone. As a dear friend of mine says 'Susie, life is hard.' None of us can run from the valleys we have to walk through. For me, Kathie Brown's stunning Asian vocals colour the song with those valleys of melancholy whilst Dilip Joseph's Malayalam expresses in gentle strength Daniel's piece 'Brighter than the dark skies' S.

8 ONLY LIGHT by SUSIE BEATTIE AND DANIEL GOODMAN

In you there is no darkness
In you there is no darkness at all
Only light

Only light, only light, only light, only light

Malayalam improvisation based on this piece.
BRIGHTER THAN THE DARK SKIES
GOODMAN

I can feel the water in the air though it is yet to fall,
the air is not heavy but light with the clarity of vision
that cool air brings before the heavens open,
it reminds me of the storms I used to see and hear thundering around me,
behind and before when I was a child
and rain meant thunder and lightning which opened up the earth
in rivers that lived fast and died young,
the wind would pull the tide high up the beaches and onto the roads
and the palms would raise their leafy arms to God and pray for mercy,
such were the rains that I remembered,
six months of landscape of such a vivid green
that the earth would shine brighter than the dark skies.
