  RAVE REVIEWS FOR ETERNAL CURVE

The words 'difficult' and 'second album' often go hand in hand, so it's rare to find a follow up that surpasses the debut. But that's exactly what Note For a Child have achieved with Eternal Curve. Whilst it's true there are comparisons to be found with Impossibly Beautiful - both albums inhabit a landscape filled with rich beats and mesmerising harmonies, both albums seem born out of a sense of awe invoked by nature, love and life - Eternal Curve, though, is simply more adventurous, more assured, more mature than it's predecessor." 'Vermeer's Astronomer' is an early hit

  "ETERNAL CURVE "QUITE SIMPLY BRILLIANT!""

A beautiful, evocative, unique work of art Quite simply brilliant 'Vermeer's Astronomer' is a classic." Phil Baggaley
Each recording by Note For a Child seems to encapsulate a haunting quality unique in my experience. This is another gem from the innovative group." Tony Cummings

Since the day I received a copy to review it has not left my cd player, get it, this is both money and time well worth the spending." Kevin Prosch.

Festival fever!

THE 'CHILD' GO FOR THEIR SUMMER HOLS AT GREENBELT 2005

'Impossibly Beautiful', the title track from Note For a Child's debut album has been nominated for 'Song of the Year' at the 2005 CBC Convention.
NFaC played twice at this years Greenbelt festival in Cheltenham. The first session was a great acoustic set in the Performance Cafe, venue of the year as ever, with storming guitar from Andy Cross. He wasn't literally on fire! Then again in Stage Two where the capacity crowd lay back, stared at the ceiling and floated away on a sea of tunes, both old and new.

Life Swappers, from GP to Muso

THE MIRROR (UK DAILY NATIONAL NEWSPAPER) GIVE WHOLE PAGE TO SUSIE!!!

The Mirror 'Britain's Brightest Paper' went behind the scenes to find out what made Susie give up a well paid and fulfilling job as a GP to become a singer and songwriter. The article which was part of a piece called 'Life Swappers' included a half page picture of Susie behind the mic.
The interest from one of the UK's largest dailies has got the local papers scrambling for more of the story. It's a great opportunity for us to share some of what goes into the music and 'makes us tick'.

Award Nominated Song!

IMPOSSIBLY BEAUTIFUL NOMINATED FOR CBC 'SONG OF THE YEAR' AWARD!

'Impossibly Beautiful', the title track from Note For a Child's debut album has been nominated for 'Song of the Year' at the 2005 CBC Convention.
Nomination for this prestigious award comes as a complete surprise but we were both thrilled to have the exposure and recognition. It comes as we are working hard on the next album, Eternal Curve, so it was well timed as an encouragement.

The BIGGEST radio station in the world.

"BBC RADIO 2'S WHISPERING BOB CALLS 'SEPTEMBER SONG' "...PERFECT!" "

One thing leads to another and after doing a local show for the BBC, our CD ended up in the mighty hands of 'whispering' Bob Harris, the ever-popular DJ on the world's biggest radio station, BBC Radio Two! Not only that but Mr Harris (who has impeccable taste!) played 'September Song' and called it 'perfect'!
The support of such a well respected music personality has been invaluable to us and continues to draw new listeners to the website and the music.

On the 11th August Susie was invited to the BBC's Broadcasting House to appear on Woman's Hour, the hugely popular Radio Four programme hosted by Jenni Murray.

The smartest of annual festivals host NFaC

NEW WINE 04 WAS A STORMING SUCCESS

Having been booked for the two weeks of New Wine 04 over twelve months ago NFaC were delighted to finally plug in the plasma screens, rig the lights and turn up the loops infront of a very full house at the festival's 600 seater cafe venue.
The gigs were a highlight of this summer's outings so far. Attendance and CD sales reflected the excellent reception the band and music received.

'Tony Goodman, bottom right...my dad!' Daniel Goodman.

TWO GENERATIONS OF CCM AS MIKE RIMMER UNEARTHS THE OUT OF DARKNESS CONNECTION

One of the questions we always get asked is 'Why the name?', well I guess one answer could be that I wanted a band name longer than my dad's! However as both Out of Darkness and Note For a Child weigh in at 13 letters I seem to have failed!
The 60s/70s progressive blues outfit Out of Darkness was fronted by one Anthony Goodman, and the family connection with Note For a Child is causing some interest in the CCM world, with Cross Rhythm's Mike Rimmer following the story. Mr Goodman Snr also previously fronted The Pilgrims, CD now re-released.

'...sublime...sumptuous... lush...distinct... rich...inspired'

THE LONDON INSTITUTE FOR CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIANITY REVIEWS IB

'A stirring and sublime debut from Cambridge based duo Susie Beattie and Daniel Goodman. The album is a rich mix of lush loops and ambient instrumentation which provide a mellow setting for Beattie's sumptuous vocals. while there are echoes of Lamb and Enya in the sound, the assured musicianship and lovingly crafted songs ensures this remains a distinct and inspired first time outing.'

Singing on Radio 4 was a fantastic experience

DANIEL SINGS ON BBC RADIO 4

On the 5th January 04 Daniel sung 'Lord you have my heart' by Martin Smith and 'Change my heart' by Maggi Dawn on the weekly service for Radio 4. The show went out live and was written and led by Maggi. In the band that day were Andy Cross (who, of course, mastered the album and plays live with NFaC) and Martin Niel (drumming legend whose past projects included The Black Peppercorns with Kevin Prosch-see 'influential albums' section of the site- and The Cutting Edge Band). It was a fantastic experience and a great way to start the new year, one we hope will be full of opportunity and friendships.

Lead singer of The Black Peppercorns, Kevin Prosch.

  KEVIN PROSCH OFFERS HIS SUPPORT

NFaC were overjoyed to receive an email from outstanding singer/songwriter/producer (!) Kevin Prosch telling them that he thought Impossibly Beautiful was 'absolutely delightful'! Thanks to Mr Prosch the album will soon be available from his own (excellent) web site www.kevinprosch.com. The suprise came with special significance for Daniel who has always been a huge fan, (he even has a letter Kevin kindly wrote to him in response to his fan mail, aged 18!)

The Launch Concert was a massive success.

  ALBUM LAUNCH GIG SELLS OUT!

On Friday 27th February Note For a Child held a special concert to mark the release of the new album, Impossibly Beautiful. The concert was a multi media affair with an exhibition of photographs from the sleeve session, taken by Simon Earwicker, a live dance by Anna Wells (the dancer featured in the sleeve shots), a brilliant support set from singer/songwriter Jc and, of course, plenty of music and movies by NFaC.
After lots of press and radio support in Cambridge the concert sold out well in advance of the night and more are planned, so keep an eye on the gig guide!

  SOUTH AFRICA HOUSE HOSTS NFAC

NFaC were proud to support the work of Gumboots Charitable Trust and headlined a benefit concert for them at South Africa House, Trafalgar Square on the 31st January. The charity supports and encourages the arts in both South Africa and England.
The man they call 'The Russian' was playing percussion with us for the first time.
Performing in such a wonderful building in the heart of London was sure to be a pleasure and, with the full band out together for the first gig of the year, it proved to be a night to remember. Mr and Mrs Goodman were our special guests!

Susie promises to laugh at all of Daniel's jokes!

GOD TV AND CROSS RHYTHMS RADIO/MAGAZINE MEET NFAC

Tony Cummings, Editor of Cross Rhythms magazine, asked Daniel and Susie to come on February 12th and spend an afternoon doing 'face-to-face' interviews for God TV, followed by Cross Rhythms Radio and finally an interview for the magazine!
It was fun to become more familiar with the way these things work and just relax and be ourselves. Writing and recording music is where the energy and heartache go so it is good to get out from time to time and talk about the album, hopefully make some new friends and soak up the atmosphere.

Again Susie finds herself in a studio with 'cans' on!

EXCURSION TO THE STUDIOS OF BBC RADIO CAMBRIDGESHIRE!!

Apparently a GP leaving a well paid and worthy occupation to pursue an unpaid (but equally worthy!) one makes quite an intriguing news story…Susie talked to Graham Daniels, Radio Cambridgeshire, on Sunday 22nd February, prior to the launch gig. Daniel's turn later on this year… rats, why couldn't he be first!
The local press and media have been very interested to see the story of NFaC unfold, and in a city so steeped in learning, the 'Doctor turned musician' story has really helped us to communicate with people who admire Susie's choice.

  WWW.NOTEFORACHILD.COMMUNITY 1.2 ONLINE!

The new site went live with new images, content and downloads. We love being part of this little group of views, news and reviews. Posting thoughts, hearing yours and slowly but surely widening the net for the music.
Let us know what you think and whether there are any opportunities we should know about. The site is a great way of sharing this adventure so let us know if you have any suggestions, we would love to hear from you.
A BIG THANKS goes out to Simon Earwicker for his time, effort and, most importantly, skill in putting the images together for us.

A surge in sales to the medical sector (hopefully!)

"DOCTOR TREATS WITH TUNES NOT TABLETS!"

GPs across the country get a taster of Impossibly Beautiful as
national 'GP' and 'Doctor' magazines run a feature on the errant Dr.Beattie…with the Cambridge Evening News team following closely on!There seems to be no end to Susie's talents! (oh, Daniel!) Having heard her sing many people are amazed to hear that she is also a highly trained GP. This side of our story really opens doors to people who have dedicated their lives to a single profession, sometimes feeling that they have missed out on other parts of who they are or could be. Susie's reputation as a brilliant singer is fast catching up with her reputation as a brilliant doctor!<

"Where are my headphones? Oh, yes, on my head!"

  HOPE FM EXCLUSIVE!

NFaC were pleased to be invited to join Nick Rutter on the 'Late Show' with exclusive first airings of 'The Western Reach' and 'Take Me In' from the new album 'Impossibly Beautiful'.
On the same show were American song masters 'Jars of Clay' who were also talking about their new project.
The show went out live on Hope FM which broadcasts on the south coast (of England) and brought some very positive feedback for NFaC early on in the promotion of the album.
Tired from supporting Tim Hughes the night before, the guys were nonetheless able to look back on a great weekend.
