V E R o U P W A R D I had been reading a really inspirational book called 'Streams in the Desert' by L.B. Cowman and was arrested by the question of where it is we see our life moving to how that affects the way we live, how we feel, what we do, what we aim for and all that I was really moved by the sense of ultimate purpose that living an 'ever upward' life brings and wanted to write about it. During one of our Tuesday night sessions early on, Dan started up a simple guitar refrain over a sampled loop. This slightly dark world music vibe triggered the melody and lyrics from me fairly much instantaneously; Peter Gabriel would describe it 'like catching an apple just as it falls off the tree.' We both feel that the movement in the song and the statement of intent in the lyrics kind of echo the final chapter of C.S. Lewis The Last Battle 'Higher up and further in.' S. 3. EVER UPWARD by SUSIE BEATTIE and DANIEL GOODMAN Ever up would I lift my gaze, ever upward into your face Ever upward I'm turning still to seek your way Ever upward I'll fix my eyes, ever upward to Paradise Ever upward I will decide in you I'll abide Running after you, seeking for your face Longing for your love, seeking for your holy face Running after you, seeking for your face Running after you, searching for that place Running after you, searching for that place of peace That comforts me Never backward I'm moving on, ever upward I'll seek my home Heavenward is the place I aim, never to weep tears again Ever upward I'm climbing still, ever up if I can I will Never losing you from sight, my holy Prize LISTEN to a sample. |
