THE LONDON INSTITUTE FOR CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIANITY

The words 'difficult' and 'second album' often go hand in hand, so it's rare to find a follow up that surpasses the debut. But that's exactly what Note for a Child have achieved with 'Eternal Curve.' Whilst it's true there are comparisons to be found with 'Impossibly Beautiful' - both albums inhabit a landscape filled with rich beats and mesmerising harmonies, both albums seem born out of a sense of awe invoked by nature, love and life - Eternal Curve, though, is simply more adventurous, more assured, more mature than it's predecessor.

Nowhere is that more in evidence than in songs like 'Loving You,' where Susie Beattie's bittersweet vocals float over a distinctly darkly tinged backdrop of beats and samples or 'Song for Tomorrow' a subtle anthem for the beauty of the 'dying day,'
whilst 'Faint' is what Note for a Child do best, the pairing of lush, fragile melody with perfectly evocative percussion and guitar.

So expect songs that you can sink your soul into, songs firmly rooted in earth but with eyes distinctly fixed on the firmament above, songs that tantalisingly yearn for words to make sense of the mystery but find contentment in surrendering to the wonder of it all.

BROADCASTER AND JOURNALIST

With their ethereal soundscapes, brittle emotional voices and commitment to fashioning music which is creative and spiritual, Note For A Child return with a second helping of unique songs. Their ability to create music that drifts past you and yet simultaneously engages you makes Eternal Curve a real grower. Every listen brings to light a new facet, a fresh moment that has hitherto been awaiting your discovery. Certain delights that made Impossibly Beautiful so wonderful are still in place including the rich acoustic guitar sound on a number of songs and the puttering of percussion that underpins some tracks. The interplay of their voices sees Daniel Goodman singing more lead parts than before but the blend with Susie Beattie works really well. Their skills at creating melody surface once again as delicate songs like This River, The Ides Of May and the gorgeous Sky In Your Eyes move the listener. Although the album has a late night chillout feel, they take new steps into dance territory with the Deep House Mix of Set On The Stars which is reminiscent of the approach of Everything But The Girl a few years back. Basically Note For A Child create atmospheric music which enriches the senses and penetrates the soul with its sheer artistic beauty. Not since Iona, has a band managed to connect so creatively and so powerfully. In a fast food world of bland pop and rock, Eternal Curve is a feast for the heart and the ears.

SONGWRITER AND PERFORMER

In a world that is so full of worship bands that spend their careers copying each other, finally there is something fresh and stirring and uniquely different. Not only is Eternal Curve refreshingly different but extremly musical with lyrics that weeve in and out of time almost as if to create some kind of palette of colors that you only can see.
Since the day I recieved a copy to review it has not left my cd player, get it ,this is both money and time well worth the spending.
I give it a 9 out of 10.

JOURNALIST AND AUTHOR

True, 'Note For A Child' is World Music at its very best. But it is better categorized as 'other World Music' - the pilgrim music through Beulah Land……
A sweet perfume upon the breeze is borne from ever- vernal trees;
And flowers that, never-fading, grow where streams of life for ever flow.
The zephers seem to float to me - sweet sounds of heaven's melody.
If your desire is for sounds that are gentle, relaxing, heavenly and deeply worshipful, you'll love this. Note For A Child's heaven-bound road-music progresses gently down an ethereal, exotic, misty, fragrant track. This Cambridge, England-based duo of Susie Beattie and Daniel Goodman produce edifying art - beautifully done - that is a poetic, soft and mellow mix of multilayered sounds and melodies that softly emanate upward.

A beautiful, evocative, unique work of art…Quite simply brilliant…'Vermeer's Astronomer' is a classic.

Eternal Curve cements the position of Note For a Child as serious contenders in the chillout stakes. Beattie's poignant and haunting vocals are granted a depth of significance by Goodman's lyrics. Subtle loops and hooks that ingrain themselves in the psyche will keep you coming back for more from a duo who know how to marry emotion to meaning.

Each recording by Note For A Child seems to encapsulate a haunting quality unique in my experience. This is another gem from the innovative group.
